Angela Ortiz

Executive Director, Besen Capital

Angela Ortiz joined Besen & Associates in October 2004 shortly after which she formed Besen Capital with Michael Besen to provide clients of the firm with workable and creative financing solutions.  Prior to Besen, she spent four years as a consultant working with New York City developers/owners including Hal Fetner and Jared Kushner providing expertise in financial analysis and acquisitions.  Ms. Ortiz’s experience spans twenty years in the commercial real estate industry, having worked with mainstays such as The Equitable Life Assurance Society, AXA Financial, National Westminster Bank, and M&T Bank.  During her career as a banker, Ms. Ortiz structured financing included acquisition, bridge, permanent and construction loans for a myriad of investment property types which included  weekly presentations  to M&T Bank’s Executive Mortgage Committee which comprised various preeminent leaders in the New York commercial real estate industry.   


Ms. Ortiz received an M.S. in Real Estate Investment/Finance from New York University; and also completed National Westminster Bank’s Executive Credit training program.  Following two terms as Chairperson, she serves as Governor of the Young Mortgage Bankers Association (“YMBA”), an association of bankers, lenders, owners and brokers.  Ms. Ortiz is also a member of the Young Men’s/Women’s Real Estate Association (“YMWREA”).  Since 2008, Ms. Ortiz has served in various capacities as a court appointed fiduciary for the Office of the Administration (“OCA”) assisting in the administration of numerous foreclosures in New York City.  She also serves on the Board of Arbitrators for FINRA (“Financial Industry Regulatory Authority”), an organization that regulates member brokerage firms and exchange markets.


Ms. Ortiz is currently serving as Auction Chair for the biggest fundraiser of The Beacon School, where her daughter attends.  In her spare time, she practices yoga teaching any chance she gets,  and practices daily meditation with her family.
